The Middlesex-London Health Unit is warning residents of the dangers involved with getting home-made tattoos after visiting a home parlour.

Following up on a tip, inspectors visited a home on Shelbourne Street and found a person was engaged in providing tattoo services without having adequate infection prevention and control measures.

The Health Unit says unsafe practices may result in the transmission of blood-borne infections, such as HIV, hepatitis B and C, as well as common skin infections.

Despite the risk being low, the Health Unit is recommending clients of that establishment get tested for hepatitis B, hepatitis C and HIV.
