Green Arc Tire says it is one step closer to opening a plant in St. Marys, after receiving a draft Environmental Compliance Approval permit.

Mike DiCenzo, CEO of Grean Arc Tire Manufacturing, said in a statement, “The draft permit confirms that Green Arc has met the highest standards as set out by the ministry...We are delighted that our operation is moving forward, allowing us to create hundreds of new jobs in the town and region.”

The eco-tire making facility could employ 340 people in the region, with 40 positions reserved for Canadian Armed Forces veterans.

According to the Ministry of the Environment,  the draft sets out operating conditions for the proposed facility to address potential dust and odours, limits the amount of tires that could be stored at the site, sets out financial assurance requirements and outlines the owner's environmental responsibilities.

The ministry would then issue a Environmental Compliance Approval permit that finalizes the conditions under which the plant will operate.

The plant would produce environmentally-friendly passenger, SUV, light truck, high performance and winter tires, which use less energy and oil than regular tires bu re-using 80 per cent original tire components.
