Patrick Cayen, the former fire chief for Sarnia, was convicted of 26 sexual assault-related charges on Friday.

Cayen, who is in his mid 50s, was facing counts including invitation to sexual touching and sexual interference, charges which are laid when victims are under the age of 16.

In November 2012, 28 charges were laid and Sarnia police said there were two victims involved in the case.

Cayen was relieved of his post with Sarnia Fire Rescue Services in January 2013. He had been the chief since 2005, and was deputy chief from 2003 to 2005.

Before that he was the fire chief in Malahide Township.

In November 2014, an additional nine charges were laid, including four counts of sexual assault, four counts of sexual interference and one count of invitation to sexual touching. They have yet to be dealt with in court.

A court-imposted publication ban has prevented the release of any additional information related to the charges, including the victims, time and location of the offences.

Sentencing is scheduled for Apr. 24.

Cameraperson roughed up

Colleen MacDonald, a camera operator for CTV News was trying to film Cayen's departure from the courthouse when she was pushed and had her camera ripped from her shoulder by a teenage boy.

Cayen apologized for the boy's actions, which left the camera severely damaged.

Fortunately, MacDonald was not injured.

Sarnia police are involved but it remains unclear if charges will be laid.
