More than two dozen giant white flower pots have been drawing attention as they sit empty in downtown London.

The pots, part of the beautification of downtown for the World Figure Skating Championships, cost the city $150,000.

But the $5,000 apiece pots have been sitting empty, without flowers or dirt to plant them in, ever since.

Now the city says it’s only a matter of time before the 30 empty pots are in bloom again.

Jim Yanchula, manager of community planning, says “They’ll be clustered around the intersection of York and Wellington and also around the Covent Garden Market and Budweiser Gardens”

But he admits that finding space along Dundas Street that would work wasn’t easy.

“It’s a question of where is the sunshine so that the plants grow well, can’t be too close to a stoplight, can’t be too close to a mailbox, can’t be too close to a fire hydrant and so on.”

The cost to relocate and replant the pots will be taken care of by Downtown London, not the taxpayers, and the plan is for more elaborate displays.

The pots should be moved over the next couple of weeks with the new plants to follow soon after.
