A fire at a home on Cherryhill Road kept firefighters and OPP busy on Tuesday afternoon.
Middlesex County OPP, the Thames Centre Fire Department and Middlesex-London EMS responded to the blaze around 1:45 p.m.
According to fire crews the home was completely filled with smoke and flames were quickly moving through the structure when they arrived.
OPP Const. Kevin Howe says "We're still in the preliminary stages of the investigation and right now fire's doing their part, attempting to control the blaze. And then after that the investigation will continue to unfold."
Cherryhill Road between Dundas Street and Evelyn Drive were closed for much of the day as the investigation into the fire began and the public was asked to avoid the area for the safety of emergency crews.
Police and the Fire Marshal's Office are expected to lead the investigation as it continues. There is no information yet on the value of the damage.
Howe says the fire moved through the home quickly, "Unfortunately fire works fast and can create serious damage. This is the unfortunate result of that today."
There were early reports that one person may have been inside the residence at the time of the fire, but officials haven't confirmed that information.
Several people believed to be friends and family of the home's resident gathered near a barn at the rear of the property trying to comfort each other. At one point a woman clearly overcome with emotion dropped to the ground and had to be consoled by others in attendance.
