Fire ripped through a house on the Oneida Nation of the Thames settlement west of London early Monday morning.

The blaze broke out around 8 a.m. on River Road. Oneida police, Middlesex OPP and the Oneida Fire Department responded and found the house fully engulfed in flames.

Fortunately all the occupants, including a woman, her son and her two young grandchildren were able to escape unharmed.

No one was injured, but the house appeared demolished.

There are reports the smoke alarms in the home were not functional. The family also did not have insurance.

Oneida fire officials are still investigating what caused the fire and there is no damage estimate. The Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office is expected on scene later Monday.

Motorists are asked to be cautious in the area or to avoid it if possible as the roadway has been reduced to one lane to accommodate emergency crews.
