While there has been general support for food trucks in the Forest City, debate over the details is bogging down the decision.

A letter from the Downtown Business Association called on councillors to cut the number of trucks from eight down to four.

They think the number of food trucks should only account for two per cent of the total number of restaurants downtown.

But a vote Wednesday night on reducing the number of food trucks from eight to six was defeated.

City staff have recommended eight trucks be allowed in metered spots, that must be at least 25 metres from restaurants or houses and 100 metres from schools.

That leaves about 100 spots downtown, but it's unclear what it would mean for other neighbourhoods.

Mayor Matt Brown says he's previously endorsed the eight food trucks, but says ultimately he'd just like to see them debut, whatever the number, this summer.

Brown says it's time to wrap up the discussion and start making a decision.
