We could soon know the fate of Blackfriars Bridge.

Members of the Blackfriars Community Association (BCA) tell CTV News they've been advised that city engineers are recommending it be repaired and re-opened to vehicular traffic.

But there's a new catch, it would only go one way, eastbound into the downtown core.

There would also be lanes for pedestrians and cyclists.

The discovery of heavily corroded supports and missing rivets forced the sudden closure of the bridge back in 2013.

But before that it had been carrying some 5,000 vehicles per day, not to mention countless pedestrians.

But not everyone likes the plan. "We're not being paid attention to as a community," says John Clement, chair of the BCA.

Clement prefers two-way traffic but with a stoplight as opposed to the recommended one way into downtown.

"So it turns the residential neighbourhood into a thoroughfare which has implications for the quality of life there," he says.

CTV News reached out to city officials for comment, but they would only say, "The recommendation will be presented at a public information meeting set for June 18th."
