It was a heart-wrenching day for the small community of Mt. Brydges as they said goodbye to an 11-year-old boy and his great-grandmother.
Ethan Taylor and 87-year-old Gwen Janes were killed in a fire at their home on Edgewood Lane early Friday morning.
It was standing room only outside th Elliott-Madill Funeral Home on Monday as family and friends gathered to remember the pair.
Ethan's uncle John was emotional as he said "He's touched my life and the lives of everybody in this room. Unfortunately our boy was taken from us too early, although we'll miss many, many moments that we were all looking forward to, we'll always cherish our fondest memories as we begin to heal from this tragedy."
Those on hand heard how the 11-year-old doted on his great-grandmother and always tried to make sure she was safe.
Janes' granddaughters shared their toughts about the former teacher who was also a foster parent to dozens of children, and talked about how she and Ethan doted on each other.
They were then laid to rest at the Mount Brydges Cemetery.
The Ontario Fire Marshal's Office continues to investigate and says it will be some time before a cause can be determined.
