Lambton OPP had some four-legged help catching a break and enter suspect who fled on foot in Watford on Monday.

Police say they were investigating a garage break-in when a foot pursuit began and the suspect, 31-year-old Jeffery Manders of Watford, refused to stop as ordered by officers.

That’s when Manders allegedly jumped the fence into a backyard where a family was celebrating Canada Day.

But it appears he chose the wrong yard.

The family dog, who police say is gentle unless it senses danger to the family’s children, was apparently not happy to see the man.

It grabbed hold of the suspect’s pant leg and held on until police were able to capture the suspect.

On Tuesday afternoon, Manders was officially charged with break and enter, mischief to property, resisting arrest and failing to comply with a probation order.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to contact OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or the nearest police. Those wishing to remain anonymous can contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
