The winners of the Don Smith Commercial Building Awards have been announced.

The awards aim to recognize the excellence and innovation in commercial buildings in the London and St. Thomas area.

The program was named after the late Don Smith, co-founder of EllisDon, a world-renowned construction company with London roots.

The 20 entrants to the competition were judged on how environmentally sensitive the individual buildings were, on design and innovation and on the extent to which they met a specific developmental need within the broader community.

A total of nine awards were presented:

  • 3M Canada Corporate Headquarters Expansion and Renovation  (Commercial Renovation winner)
  • 725-751 Fanshawe Park Road West (Commercial New Build winner)
  • Columbia Sportswear Canadian Headquarters (Industrial Building Achievment Renovation winner)
  • Southwest Doors & Hardware Ltd. (Industrial New Build winner)
  • The Richard Ivey School of Business ( Institutional Education winner)
  • Southwest Centre for Forensic Mental Health Care (Institutional Healthcare winner)
  • St. André Bessette Catholic Secondary School (Institutional Community winner)
  • Wind Engineering Energy & Environment Dome (Industrial Technology Achievement winner)
  • The Residenza Italia (Multi-Family Building Achievement winner)
