A driver has been charged after a cyclist was struck Tuesday morning in  Owen Sound.

Police say it happened shortly before 9 a.m. at 14th Street East and 3rd Avenue.

The cyclist was heading west on 14th Street at the intersection of 3rd Avenue when the driver of the vehicle allegedly turned onto the avenue from the street, knocking the cyclist from the bicycle.

The cyclist was taken to hospital and the extent of injuries are not known.

Police remind drivers to ensure all intersections are clear from pedestrians, cyclists and other vehicles before turning.

The driver is charged with not turning safely under the Highway Traffic Act.
