Life jackets saved the lives of a man and woman who fell off of a Sea-Doo on Georgian Bay and were in the water for three hours, OPP say.

Members of the Southern Georgian Bay detachment rushed to the area of Tiny Beaches Road South in Tiny Township around 8:30 p.m. Sunday, after a male was reported yelling for help in the water.

Police say while nearby residents were able to assist the male to shore in their boat, the OPP marine unit was called to the scene to search for a female who was also in the water.

She was located a short time later by residents in their personal boat, approximately two kilometers from shore off Tiny Beaches Road. The marine unit was called off after the woman was safely recovered from the water.

The male and female were operating a Sea-Doo earlier off the shores of Wasaga Beach when they fell off and the Sea-Doo continued away from them.

The two were wearing their personal floatation devices which kept them upright in the water for three hours before help arrived, police say, adding there is no doubt that had they not been wearing them, the outcome would have been much different.

OPP also thanked the citizens who assisted in rescuing the pair, who did not require medical attention.
