It could be a long, hot July for commuters who travel along Western University roads.

School officials say a construction project will be disrupting normal traffic flow for a significant portion of the month of July.

The campus is getting a new building, the Western Interdisciplinary Research Building (WIRB) and its construction is resulting in a road closure along Perth Drive.

Perth Drive, between the chemistry parking lot and the Visual Art Centre, will be closed between July 4 and July 24 to bring steam, chilled water, storm water/sewer and communications to the new site.

The west sidewalk in this area will remain open with an occasional detour. Commuters are being encouraged to avoid the area during this phase of the project.

The London Transit Commission will post bus route changes resulting from this construction project on here: http://www.ltconline.ca/Detours.htm

The WIRB is a multi-phased, seven-storey facility. The new building will include teaching and research space, classrooms, public amenities and a public plaza.

There is also road work, building modernization and a parking lot update planned.
