The battle over the placement of community mailboxes continues, even as Canada Post plans to start installation in London in June.

There are over 40,000 locations in the Forest City, and residents have been notified by mail about the planned location.

But one resident has found it is possible to get a community mailbox relocated.

Last month, Jan Pennycook came across a list of proposed locations that was leaked on the Internet and wrote a letter to let neighbours affected know.

"We had one location moved, so I think it's important to know that because it can be done, they can be moved. I don't believe anything's a done deal, I don't even think it's a done deal when you've got cement going in the ground. Things can be moved, things can be torn down."

Last year Canada Post mailed out an information kit that contained a survey, asking for neighbourhood preferences for the community mailboxes, but the results where only released to the city, and the list of proposed locations was kept confidential.

Anick Losier with Canada Post explains, "We've been doing community mailboxes for over 30 years, so we know where they should technically be, but understanding that this is a big change for most people, that's why we've added these layers of consultation and communication."

Canada Post maintains that community mailboxes have been around for decades - with little to no issues or concerns.

One of the main concerns has been the impact on property values, and very little study has been conducted to determine if a superbox would have an effect on the re-sale value of a home.

Sam Trosow of Western University says, "The city has not looked at this assessment aspect very, very carefully. One of the things I'm going to be asking the Corporate Services Committee to do next week, is to at least research this and at least ask their staff to look at the potential implications."

The Appraisal Institute of Canada confirms that only time will tell if property owners will be impact by community mailboxes when it comes to a home's re-sale value.
