A new provincial regulation that makes carbon monoxide alarms mandatory in residential homes takes effect Wednesday.
The change to Ontario's fire code was passed last December based on the recommendations of a committee.
The province says more than 50 people die from carbon monoxide poisoning in Canada each year.
