With close to 4,000 families using the London and Area Food Bank each month, the need continues during the holidays.

Friday marked the start of the Business Cares and Western Cares food drives.

The Business Cares drive, in its 15th year, is hoping to surpass last year's total of 281,000 pounds of food by at least one pound.

"We know the generosity of members of the London community will help meet the needs of the food bank and the families it serves throughout the holiday season and beyond,” says Business Cares campaign co-chair Wayne Dunn.

More than 400 London-based companies and organizations participated last year, joining together with their employees to contribute donations of food, money and other essentials for those in need.

“You know my mom used to say you're measured by how you take care of those less able to take care of themselves and for the Business Cares Food Drive that's what this is about,” says London MP Ed Holder, the other co-chair of the food drive.

Friday’s event marked the first gathering of London mascots, including Sparky the Fire Dog and Sir Scores a Lot of the London Knights.
