Strathroy-Caradoc police have identified the body found after a house fire west of Strathroy late Sunday.

Police say 10-year-old Quinn Derbyshire, one of Steven and Cindy Derbyshire's three boys, died in the fire.

His body was found on Monday night, ater fire crews and police spent the day searching for the boy, who was "unaccounted for" following the blaze at 25198 Melbourne Road.

EMS transported the other four members of the family to hospital with non-life threatening injuries after the fire.

All three stations from the Strathroy-Caradoc Fire Department, with assistance from Kerwood Fire, attended to battle the blaze that lasted throughout the night, destroying the residence.

A lack of water meant tankers had to be brought in to truck water to the scene.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Ontario Fire Marshal’s office and the Strathroy-Caradoc Police Service.

Damage is estimated at $350,000.

Statement released by school officials

As the Derbyshire family struggles with the tragedy, the school community is also trying to come to terms with the loss.

Quinn was a Grade 6 student at Caradoc North Public School, and is being remembered as an active student who loved sports and had many friends.

In a statement, Principal Ellen Lundberg said, "He had an incredible sense of humour and always wore a smile on his face.Whatever Quinn did, he did with gusto! He was a caring and loving boy who could always be counted on to help out when needed."

She also extended condolences to to the Derbyshire family.

The Thames Valley District School Board Traumatic Events Response Team has been at the school to provide support to students and staff.
