The newest automotive plants in the province, Toyota's facilities in Woodstock and Cambridge may be about to undergo some major changes.

Unifor is set to announce details of its union drive at the plants.

Auto analyst Tony Faria says future investment in the Canadian auto industry could be at stake.

"I truly believe that Toyota will be a little bit more hesitant in the future to invest in Canada if their workforce here is unionized, while their workers at the U.S. plants are not unionized," says Faria.

Unifor has been campaigning for the past year at Toyota.

On Monday, Faria says he expects union executive to announce a date for a union vote within the next few weeks.

"I would have to think that Unifor, if they are proceeding with calling a vote, are reasonably confident they have a very good chance at Toyota," says Faria.

He adds a foot in the door at Toyota could inject new life into the labour movement in Ontario.

The news conference is set for 10 a.m. Monday in Kitchener.

Unifor President Jerry Dias will be in attendance for the announcement, as well as Unifor Organizing Director John Aman, and Toyota team members from Cambridge and Woodstock plants.

CTV will provide full coverage of the announcement on our website and on CTV News at 6 and 11 Monday evening.
